With fall just around the corner, the Sports Ministry season is about to get busy again. We’re already planning upcoming sports and could use some volunteers to help with refereeing games. We also need childcare workers.
Having childcare provided during Sports Ministry events has been a huge help to a lot of people and we’d like to keep this going, but we need help!
If you’re interested in volunteering, talk to a Sports Ministry team member (often wearing maroon Sports Ministry shirts) or e-mail them.
The fishing league is coming to an end. It’s been a fun season with seven teams this year, and we’re hoping for even more teams next summer. For teams participating, enter your results here: Enter Results
• Sunday, Aug. 26 will be the end-of-the-season tournament on Rice Lake. Only league members are eligible, but there will be an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. at Lum Park that everyone is invited to attend. Bring a picnic supper for some fun and fellowship time.
Kickball registration is already under way. You can find team registration forms at the Sports Ministry booth on Sundays or they’re downloadable here.
• Teams can register until Sept. 2 and the four-week season begins Sept. 9.
4/22/07 - Volleyball 2007
It's a record! Seventeen teams and 132 people have signed up to play volleyball with TJN's Sports Ministry.
The Sports Ministry team is so encouraged by the increasing interest in the sporting events. The ministry's mission is "to provide a sporting outlet where relationships with others and Christ can be developed." It seems as though the mission is being accomplished.
This year volleyball has been broken up into two leagues, competitive and recreational. There are 10 competitive teams and seven in the rec league.
Games start at 5 p.m. Sunday in the upper and lower gyms. Come cheer on your favorite teams!
If you can't make it to the games, be sure to check out www.tjnsports.com for updated standings and schedules.

Week 4
The top two floor hockey teams, The Brickyard Bullies and North Stars, faced off this week. The Brickyard Bullies defeated the North Stars handily, leaving the teams tied for first place with 3 wins and one loss.
Player of the week: Todd Soxman, goalie for Smackdown. The puck rarely gets by Todd when he’s playing goalie for Smackdown. This week he even came out of the net and scored a goal for his team. Todd’s athleticism and enthusiasm make him an asset to his team.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered or bought tickets for the Applebee’s fundraiser. It was a huge success — we raised about $700 — which help with gym rental and equipment costs. We’re planning to have the fundraiser again next winter.

Floor hockey season is officially under way.
Last Sunday was the first round of games, with all six teams looking talented and hard to beat.
The scores
Northstars 12, Smackdown 5
Scabs and Scars 7, Brickyard Bullies 3
Bunyans and Babes 7, The Marshmallow Warriors 1
Player of the week: Ron Nivitsky, Northstars.
Ron had three goals and one assist contributing the Northstars' win. He's a strong team player who passes the puck and stays calm throughout the whole competition.
Fashion statement of the week: Al Steiff, Scabs and Scars.
Al's spandex-like grey pants accompanied by a green t-shirt with the size sticker still on the front was a look not just anyone could pull off. Did I mention he plays goalie without shoes?
Don't forget to support TJN's Sports Ministry by buying tickets to the Applebee's fundraiser Jan. 27!

The Journey North Feature Article
Sports Ministry is a growing outreach program at The Journey North. With
more than 100 people participating in various sports including dodgeball,
floor hockey and volleyball, the ministry has been a proven success for the
last three years.
The Sports Ministry’s mission is to go beyond the church walls to get people
involved on their turf — in sporting events, programs and on teams — all in
a non-threatening environment. This helps people develop relationships with
Christians in a way they enjoy and begin to know the love of Christ.
The Sports Ministry team — Carl and Shannon Mills, Brian and Heidi Lake,
Mike and Kelly Moore and Matthew Mills — are excited to see the Sports
Ministry program growing and the mission being accomplished.
To assist with gym rental and equipment costs, the Sports Ministry team is
hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Mark your calendars! Breakfast will be served from 8-10 a.m. and tickets are
available for only $5. Tickets can be purchased from anyone on the Sports
Ministry team (look for us wearing maroon Sports Ministry t-shirts), so
track us down or stop by the Sports Ministry information booth on Sundays.
The dodgeball season has recently concluded, leaving newcomers, The
Marshmallow Warriors, the champions. The floor hockey season begins Jan. 7.
Six teams have signed up to play. We’re looking forward to another great
hockey season, which will be followed by volleyball.

What time is it? Playoff time!
For those of you who answered "Peanut Butter Jelly Time," you could be right. Team Peanut Butter Jelly Time, led by
captain Matthew Mills, haven't lost a match yet, making them the No. 1 seed
going into the playoffs. Games start at 5 p.m. Sunday, so come cheer for
your favorite team.
Player of the week: Kelly Moore, Captain Cavemen. Kelly caught nearly
everything that came her way Sunday, totaling six catches on the night.
Maybe her quick hands will help the underdog Captain Cavemen (ranked fifth
out of seven teams) in the playoffs.
Check out our Web site for updated player and team stats, game schedules and
even highlight videos!
Don't forget floor hockey starts Jan. 7. Team sign-up sheets are available
at the sports ministry booth on Sundays or online. Registrations are due
